Mission |
EI4GroupIV is a consortium of research groups belonging to academic and non-governmental R&D organizations from all over the world. Its aim is to boost research on materials that allow further extension of the ITRS roadmap beyond the limitations of the classical Si materials system. The main objective is to promote synergistic academic and technological cooperation between the partners for amplifying the individual member’s research on new group IV semiconductor materials & processing and for promoting the international scientific information
exchange. The main topics that are linked to both, fundamental research as well as device applications, are the following:
Fundamental Research:
・ Manufacturing and characterization of Si-based heterostructures like quantum wells and
superlattice structures
・ Defect free strained layer engineering
・ Atomically controlled processing for end-of-scaling-roadmap doping requirements
・ Process technologies for Si, SiGe, SiGe:C, Ge, GeSn
・ Laser processing
・ Synergistic applications of SiGe:C, Ge and III-V materials on silicon substrates
Device Applications:
・ CMOS, BiCMOS, DRAM, HBT, Photonic Devices, Photovoltaics, Spintronic Devices

History |
The idea of forming this consortium has been expressed after the 1st International Workshop on Si based nano-electronics and -photonics SiNEP-09 end of September 2009 by Prof. Murota from RIEC (Research Institute for Electrical Communication) of the Tohoku University in Sendai (Japan). General and specific objectives have soon been determined during and after the 5th International WorkShop on
New Group IV
Semiconductor Nanoelectronics end of January 2010 in Sendai. The consortium EI4groupIV has finally been officially announced by its driving force Prof. Murota in April 2010.
